I have been in the same room....for 6 hours. Not at home. I have been in the Samsung Room at DFW Airport Terminal E gate 32. I am assigned the horribly boring Ready Reserve shift from 2PM to 10PM. Anyways all this time has given me a lot of time to think.
Right now there is a computer hidden in the house that simply records video from the security cameras all day and night. That's all it does. There is no monitor attached...just the computer. The only way to see the cameras is to remote desktop to the computer. This is fine for on the road...but every now and then I want to see what's going on in front of the house...while I am home.
There is this big beautiful TV on the wall in the living room. How to get the video signal from the computer to the TV was a big Hmmmmm. The distance is about 40-45 feet considering up the wall, across the ceiling and down the wall. I thought about some kind of CCTV box to broadcast the signal. But that get pricey quick. I then thought about wireless transmitters. Some will transmit to a channel...like 3 or 4. But then I thought about our neighbors watching us by mistake. I then pondered more. Finally I came up with a really...really long compositve, VGA or S-Video cable. I then went about finding such cables. The VGA cable was knocked off the list because the XBOX 360 uses that port on the TV. The S-video cable was removed only because there would be no audio...if I ever wanted audio. That left good ole' red, white and yellow composite cables. I found a 50 foot cable over at Monoprice.com (awesome website!) for $13.95. This should work. I just gotta make sure I have empty ports on the back of the TV.
I've been in this room too long. I need to go home.
